Air St Lukes Ground Transport Funding Impact

McCall Memorial Hospital District Funding

Air St. Luke’s Medical Ground Transportation

FY2020 – $450,000

FY2021 – $450,000

Funding Impact

  • The need for implementing our own ambulance for medical ground transportation was due to the existing local EMS being unable to meet the demands for urgent, emergency patient transfers to Boise.
  • Funds supported purchase of the ambulance, hiring four health care professionals and associated education and supplies.
  • Ground transports are a combination of transports to Boise, the McCall airport or to patient’s residence.

Note: The McCall Air St. Luke’s ground transport began in April 2020.

Patient Care Impact

  • Improved response time when ground transportation from McCall is appropriate for a patient transfer to Boise. Previously a St. Luke’s ambulance would be sent from Boise to McCall to pick up the patient.
  • The McCall team completes local trips, returning patients to their homes or care facilities.
  • The McCall Air St. Luke’s team transports patients requiring air transport to and from the McCall airport. This is a significant benefit to the community as it doesn’t put the burden on the local 911 EMS system.
  • When the McCall team is not on an interfacility transport, they are available to assist in the emergency department with patient care.
  • In FY22 we encountered some significant challenges with being able to fill open positions. Even with these challenges, ground transports from McCall to Boise increased by 16 percent (15) over the prior year.
